ABOUT frp
What is frp?
frp is an open-source reverse proxy that helps you access local services behind a NAT or firewall through a publicly reachable server.
A service on your home or office network may not be directly reachable from the internet. frp connects that service to a server you control, which can forward requests to it.
How does it work?
frpsis the server component, usually running on a machine with a public IP address.frpcis the client component. It connects tofrpsand can reach the service you want to make accessible.
In a typical reverse-proxy setup, a request goes to frps, travels over the connection to frpc, and reaches the configured service.
What can you use it for?
- Access a web service on your local network. For example, access kimi code web or deepseek harness running on your office computer from home.
- Connect remotely to a computer on your local network using SSH, VNC, or RDP. For example, use your office computer’s terminal or remote desktop from home.
- Access files on a NAS using protocols such as FTP or SMB. For example, read documents on your home NAS while traveling for work, or back up photos to it.
The frp project supports protocols such as TCP, UDP, HTTP, and HTTPS. The setup depends on the service and how you want to access it.
Where does FerryPorts fit in?
FerryPorts is an frp client for iOS. It lets you manage connection profiles, connect to your own frps server, and view status and logs.
You need to prepare an authorized frps server and its configuration. Background operation depends on iOS, network conditions, and permissions. For setup and supported app features, see the FerryPorts support guide.
